The epicanthal or mongoloid fold is a characteristic feature of East Asian eyelids which show an overgrown vertical crease of skin covering and hiding the inner part of the eye and the caruncle (lacrimal lake). The epicanthic fold may be commonly associated to the presence of a single upper eyelid.
Elimination of the epicanthus fold is best accomplished by means of zeta plasties, redistribution and anchoring maneuvers applied over the inner side of the upper and lower eyelids.
